Recently, Mike Reece attended and successfully completed a 3 day training session in the administration and scoring of the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) Field Sobriety tests used by all law enforcement agencies in determining whether to arrest someone for Driving While Impaired. This is the second time that he has completed this training.
The training included lectures and demonstrations as well as "hands on" experience administering and scoring the tests - the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand - including "wet labs" with volunteer subjects who had consumed alcohol and may or may not have been impaired. The weekend concluded with a final exam, both written and giving the tests, on which Mike received a perfect score.
Mike said that "With as many DWIs as I try, it's important to know as much as I can about these tests in order to best serve my clients. Additionally, it gave me new appreciate for the work that law enforcement does."
